With deepest gratitude for being a part of this
wonderful miracle with
all of you...
I hope this finds you all well and enjoying these glorious late summer days.
This coming full moon is the Harvest Moon. We can also be grateful for the generosity of this cosmos for providing all of the nourishment that is does and hopefully share our harvest with those who are not enjoying the same abundance. Thanksgiving every day!
what an amazing planet!!!
This coming Sunday at 6 PM we will be gathering at our home, 725 Matunuck School House Rd, South Kingstown. We will enjoy sitting/walking/sitting meditation, I will offer a talk and we will share the Dharma. It is a wonderful opportunity to deepen our practice and support each other.
We are living in challenging times, and it looks like they have the potential to become even more challenging. We are all living with personal challenges, we live in a country that is going through a period of divisiveness and change and living on a planet that is in crisis. So to me it is more important than ever to be able to deepen our practice so that we can maintain our equanimity and respond as skillfully and effectively as we can to all of these challenges.
For those of you who are interested in raising awareness about climate change, I have, in the past, offered information on how to be part of the Earth Holders Sangha...an online global Sangha in the Plum Village Tradition. Right now there is much discussion about Right Action in response to the crisis our planet is in. I have included contact information if you would like to get connected.
Our practice is transformation at the base so that we can take action from a place of wisdom, peace and non-duality. Thay has firmly believed that transformation of the collective consciousness - our hatred, greed and illusion of separateness - is required in order to have true peace on earth. If that is not the foundation of our actions, we just keep repeating history.
We can see so many examples of groups being discriminated against by folks who are blinded by those three poisons. There is eventually an uprising and sometimes an overthrow of governments...only to have people with the same mental formations fill the void. They take over power and repeat history, by being corrupted and blinded by their own greed and ambitions so that they abuse and use people in the same way that those who were overthrown did. Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe who recently passed, is one such example. I have included information from John Bell about the Earth Holder Community below.
There is a rally coming up on Sept 20 that was originally scheduled to happen at the State House. It has been moved to Burnside Park in Downtown Providence at 10 AM. I will send out more info closer to the date. There are these rallies happening all over the globe. I will send that info to our google group. If you are not on that list, but would like to be, please contact Cindy West at email@example.com
Also please remember that it is essential that we water seeds of joy in order to be able to be with the suffering in the world. There is a wonderful opportunity to do just that at the Sangha Picnic on Saturday Sept 21 at Colt State Park in Bristol from 12-3 Bring yourself, a vegetarian dish to share and a friend, family members, a song, a game, whatever you like...mostly your sweet self. I do hope you will be able to be with us.
Thay always tells us to ask "Are you sure" and says that where there is perception, there is deception. Here is a perfect example...again a gift of this miraculous universe. Enjoy!
I hope you will be able to be with us on Sunday.
with much love and gratitude for all of you,
From John Bell about the Earth Holder Community....
"as a member of the Earth Holder Community Care Taking Council, I'd like to share that the CTC is clear that the EHC is not in the business of endorsing or not endorsing XR or any other earth justice initiative. The EHC’s purpose, as the tagline says, is to bring “mindfulness, compassion, healing, and nonviolence to protecting ourselves, each other, all beings, and the Earth.” Individual practitioners or sanghas will engage in whatever earth justice efforts they feel called to. The EHC can and does feel in partnership with many climate justice organizations and does support specific activities, like the Sept 20 Youth Climate Strike, but we do so not by “taking sides” but with our practices of mindful presence, deep listening, and compassionate dialogue.
The EHC CTC welcomes anyone who is reading this piece to continue the discussion by joining the EHC “Mindful HUB” on Basecamp if you haven’t already done so, to listen to perspectives shared there and to offer their own thinking. (To join, contact Simona Coayla-Duba, firstname.lastname@example.org.) There is much room for wondering, mutual listening, mutual support regarding how inner and outer liberation inter-are. And we support the practice of skillful action as a deep expression of the Engaged Buddhism that our teacher Thay encourages. We trust the community--our sanghas and all our siblings--to walk the path of love, compassion, and healing with mindfulness.
