We live on a blue planet that circles around a ball of fire
next to a moon that moves the sea,
and you don't believe in miracles?
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
I am in love with Mother Earth
Thich Nhat Hanh
Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.
We need to cultivate virtue and wisdom to take good care of our Mother and save our precious planet.
I hope you are well and enjoying being a part of this miraculous cosmos.

CORRECTION! The Sangha Picnic will be Sept 21 at 12 noon at shelter #3 in Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. It is a vegetarian potluck, a time to connect with others from all the other Sanghas in RI..You are invited to bring friends, family, friendly pets, games, songs, etc. It's a lovely place with lovely friends. I hope you will be able to join us.
I am feeling grateful for this miraculous planet...and want to do all I can to help preserve it. I cried when I heard about the Amazon and the ignorance and greed that is fueling it's destruction...the same ignorance and greed that is fueling our own. First I cry and then get busy. My grandmother, who was my root teacher always told me, "God helps those who help themselves, get off your knees and hustle!" So more love letters to the powers that be , more phone calls
and some checks in the mail to the organizations that are doing all they can to help us wake up...ie, NRDC, ACLU, RAICES etc. There are several Organizations helping with reforestation ie.,, Eden Project - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/19/planting-billions-trees-save-planet and...of course watering lots of seeds of joy in ourselves to expand our capacity to be with the suffering that exists, by enjoying all the miracles, ie. baby hummingbirds at our feeder! I hope you will join me. I received a note from a friend saying the Shamans were requesting that we join them in chanting, praying and drumming and envision rain falling on the Amazon...Please do what you can to help take care of Mother Earth. May all beings wake up to save our life support system.
If there are organizations that you know of that are doing good work and could use support, you can send that info to the google group. If you are not a member of that group, but would like to be, contact Cindy West at email@example.com.
And again, it is so important to keep from falling into despair. Here is a lovely interview with two of the Plum Village monastics who took part in a climate justice rally in England about how to do this.
One thing that helps me is to learn about folks doing wonderful things.
Here is a beautiful example of a country taking action....
Here is a good example...of someone finding true happiness in sharing and helping.
with much love and gratitude for all of you,
The Eleventh Mindfulness Training: Right Livelihood
Aware that great violence and injustice have been done to our environment and society, we are committed not to live with a vocation that is harmful to humans and nature. We will do our best to select a livelihood that contributes to the wellbeing of all species on earth and helps realize our ideal of understanding and compassion. Aware of economic, political, and social realities around the world, as well as our interrelationship with the ecosystem, we are determined to behave responsibly as consumers and as citizens. We will not invest in or purchase from companies that contribute to the depletion of natural resources, harm the earth; and deprive others of their chance to live.
DIRECTIONS TO THE WEST HOME AT 9 PLANTATION DR (although it feels more like Kingston since it is just up the road from URI)
From Cindy - . We live about 2 miles from URI. From rt 138, go north onto Old North Rd. (across the street from big sign ““Kingston Hill Store Books Used and Rare””. Also, just a smidge west of the 138/108 traffic light). Old North Rd starts off as a one way, continues on as a two way street, and finally ends as a T. You will see our corner property from there. Go left at the T (Old North Rd meets Stoneyfort Rd), and then a quick right onto Plantation Dr. We are the first home on the right (2nd driveway is easiest). Come on in the side door (porch/kitchen)!
