Going as a River...
If you are a drop of water, then you will evaporate halfway; but if you go as a river, you will surely reach the ocean.
- Thich Nhat Hanh
Taking refuge in the sangha means putting your trust in a community of solid members who practice mindfulness together. You do not have to practice intensively—just being in a sangha where people are happy, living deeply the moments of their days, is enough. Each person’s way of sitting, walking, eating, working, and smiling is a source of inspiration; and transformation takes place without effort. If someone who is troubled is placed in a good sangha, just being there is enough to bring about a transformation.

I hope you are well and enjoying these beautiful summer days. I grow more grateful for being a drop in the river of our Sangha every day. What sweet beings!
I am taking a retreat myself and will be with the Mahasangha so I won't be sending another update for a little while...there will be lots of opportunities to go as a river in the meantime - so please make note of these meetings and dates.

I hope you will be able to join us.
One of the most precious qualities we can cultivate ...a quality that helps us to go as a river...is deep listening...Here is what Thay tells us...
We can only listen to another person and understand their suffering if we have first looked deeply, embraced, and been kind to our own fear and anger. We make peace with our own fears, worries, and resentments and look deeply to understand their roots. This brings the insight that can transform and heal.
The process of going home and making peace inside is critical to being able to offer love to another person. Everyone knows that peace must begin with oneself, but not everyone knows how to do it. With the practice of mindful breathing, calming the mind and relaxing the body, you can start making peace inside you, and you’ll feel much better right away. Before you do the work of reconciliation with another, you need to restore communication with yourself.
I hope that until we meet again, you will be living with the awareness of interbeing, loving yourself, each other and this miraculous planet of ours...
Einstein* offers this beautiful reminder of who we are to help us to do just that!
Enjoy every moment!
with much love and the joy of interbeing with you,
DIRECTIONS TO THE WEST HOME FOR THE MEETING ON THE 13th...
9 Plantation Drive, Saunderstown
We live about 2 miles from URI. From rt 138, go north onto Old North Rd. (across the street from big sign ““Kingston Hill Store Books Used and Rare””. Also, just a smidge west of the 138/108 traffic light). Old North Rd starts off as a one way, continues on as a two way street, and finally ends as a T. You will see our corner property from there. Go left at the T (Old North Rd meets Stoneyfort Rd), and then a quick right onto Plantation Dr. We are the first home on the right (2nd driveway is easiest). Come on in the side door (porch/kitchen)!
* Dear Friends,
I am sorry to have passed on fake news! It turns out that the quote attributed to Einstein was not his! I love the images and the idea that my energy, when in harmony with everyone elses is creating a symphony. Too bad whoever created the post thought it needed to come from Einstein!
Another example of needing to look deeply and cut through the surface of things... the times in which we live offer us constant opportunities for practice!
My apologies for the misinformation and extra email!
with much love,
