Rhode Island Community of Mindfulness
Celebrating at Blue Cliff Monastery.
It was a happy moment!
(also...Jorge and Philippe!)
I hope you are all well and enjoying the products of all the April (and May) showers. The blooming of the trees and flowers this spring has been magnificent! And a sure sign of spring....our hummingbirds are back!
We just returned from the Order member and Aspirant Retreat at Blue Cliff Monastery. It was wonderful and two members of the RI Community of Mindfulness became Order Members...Jess Skyleson and Steph Gove. It was a very joyful gathering and the largest one yet! I am sure that Thay is smiling.
This is a reminder that there will be a Sangha gathering this Sunday evening at 6 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County on North Rd in Peace Dale. We will enjoy sitting meditation, continue to look together at the next of the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings - the 7th - Living Happily in the Present Moment (see below) and we will share the Dharma. Renee will be facilitating and it will be lovely to be together again.I hope you will be able to be with us.
Here is a lovely Dharma Talk by Thay on this topic that was shown at the Blue Cliff Retreat....
Here is also a delightful video in honor of the miraculous hummingbirds!
I hope to be with you Sunday and until then, I hope that you will be enjoying every moment!
with much love and many hugs,
The Seventh Mindfulness Training:
Dwelling Happily in the Present Moment
Aware that life is available only in the present moment, we are committed to training ourselves to live deeply each moment of daily life. We will try not to lose ourselves in dispersion or be carried away by regrets about the past, worries about the future, or craving, anger, or jealousy in the present. We will practice mindful breathing to be aware of what is happening in the here and the now. We are determined to learn the art of mindful living by touching the wondrous, refreshing, and healing elements that are inside and around us, in all situations. In this way, we will be able to cultivate seeds of joy, peace, love, and understanding in ourselves, thus facilitating the work of transformation and healing in our consciousness. We are aware that happiness depends primarily on our mental attitude and not on external conditions, and that we can live happily in the present moment simply by remembering that we already have more than enough conditions to be happy.
