Happy New Year
Let's Begin Anew!
“And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that never were.”
—Rainer Maria Rilke
“Every moment is a fresh beginning.”
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.”
“Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.”
“Each minute we spend worrying about the future and regretting the past is a minute we miss in our appointment with life – a missed opportunity to engage life and to see that each moment gives us the chance to change for the better, to experience peace and joy.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
and a Dharma talk on keeping our appointment with the present moment.
I hope you are all well and enjoying this bright winter day.
This is a reminder that we will not be gathering tomorrow because it is the fifth Sunday of the month. We will be meeting next Sunday, January 6, at 6 PM at our home. We will have our New Year Ceremony when we honor our ancestors and ring in the New Year. I hope you will be able to join us. Please bring a photo or photos of your ancestor/s (blood or spiritual) and a bell or bells if you have any. It is always wonderful to get in touch with our ancestors...blood or spiritual and remember who we are. It is a time for renewing our aspirations and Beginning Anew. What a joy!
January 6 is also Epiphany - a Christian festival, commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi; When the wise men arrived in Bethlehem and recognized the divinity of Jesus. It is the Twelfth-
Day after the birth. It is also an opportunity for us all to recognize the divine in each of us. We can all have epiphanies!
Please continue to hold Laura French in your prayers...you might like to send a card to her at at The Genesis Rehab and Nursing Home, 740 Oak Hill Rd, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Please let her know that you are a “Clear Heart Sangha member” when you sign your name to the card. If you are visiting her, she has been only able to answer yes or no questions. We took her a communication board, so she might be better able to communicate with her caregivers. If you go to visit, please try to use the board with her so she might be able to get used to it. We asked her what her favorite food was and she spelled out "gnocchi "on the board...so that seemed promising!
I also wanted to let you know that I have been invited to offer a service at Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich tomorrow at 9 AM ...The focus will be on "Keeping the Love Light Shining" - beginning anew for the new year. Perhaps some of you you will be able to join us.
“I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it.
It is the realization that they create their own reality.”
The eagle said,
“Give it to me. I will take it to the moon.”
The Creator said, “No. One day they will go there and find it.”
The salmon said,
“I will bury it on the bottom of the ocean.”
The Creator said, “No. They will go there, too.”
The buffalo said, “I will bury it on the Great Plains.”
The Creator said, “They will cut into the skin of the earth and find it even there.”
Grandmother who lives in the breast of Mother Earth,
and who has no physical eyes but sees with spiritual eyes, said
“Put it inside of them.”
And the Creator said, “It is done.”

Here is also a song to celebrate interbeing........

May we all recognize our oneness in this new year.
with much love and boundless gratitude for having been able to make this trip around the sun and even more gratitude for having been able to make it with you.
