Happy Buddha's Enlightenment Day!
“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. ~Chinese Proverb
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Buddha
Dear Friends,
In this season when our Jewish friends have been celebrating the Festival of Lights, it is Buddha's Enlightenment day...so, may we all be enlightened and nourish that light in us so that we can share it with everyone we meet.
We had a lovely time this morning with the Generations Sangha. Celebrating light and letting the light within us shine.
We will have another opportunity to practice this on Sunday evening at 6 PM at the West home.(directions below)We will enjoy sitting, walking and sitting meditation and sharing Thay's teachings from "At Home in the World.' Cindy will facilitate and we will share the Dharma. I hope you will be able to be with us.
If you want to be able to communicate with other Sangha members directly, please subscribe to the google group. Contact Cindy at westnest5@verizon.net.
There will be a gathering of the Peaceful Waters Sangha in Newport at St. Paul's Methodist Church on Marlborough Street at 6:30 PM on Monday. If you know folks in that area who might enjoy sitting with us, please let them know.
In the meantime, please continue to hold Annie Desmond and her husband Tim and son Finn in your prayers and in your hearts as she is dying. She is in hospital in CA and is surrounded by lots of loving family and friends. They are dear friends. Tim sat with our Sangha all the time he was at URI, went on to marry Annie and become members of the Morning Sun Community in NH. They are sweet beings.
Please also continue to hold our dear friend Laura French in your prayers.
We continue to live in interesting times when things seem to be a bit topsy turvy... It is important to water seeds of joy, kindle that inner light, let it shine and share it with others.....
There was a wonderful program on CNN - Young Wonders - five young people doing just that...a wonderful inspiration...gives us hope!

with lots of love and light, Joanne
DIRECTIONS TO THE WEST HOME
We live about 2 miles from URI. From rt 138, go north onto Old North Rd. (across the street from big sign ““Kingston Hill Store Books Used and Rare””. Also, just a smidge west of the 138/108 traffic light). Old North Rd starts off as a one way, continues on as a two way street, and finally ends as a T. You will see our corner property from there. Go left at the T (Old North Rd meets Stoneyfort Rd), and then a quick right onto Plantation Dr. We are the first home on the right (2nd driveway is easiest). Come on in the side door (porch/kitchen)!
