Buddha's advice for the holidays...
True generosity is an offering: given freely and out of pure love.
No strings attached. No expectations.
Time and love are the most valuable possession you can share.
In our time, in our civilization, sitting and doing nothing is considered either to be a luxury or a waste of time. But sitting can produce the most nourishing calm and joy and we can all afford some time to sit. How wonderful to sit and do nothing.

I hope you are well and happy and enjoying this holiday season. We want to wish our Jewish friends a happy Hanukkah. Hanukkah, which is Hebrew for “dedication,” is the Festival of Lights. It begins Sunday evening. Celebrating the victory of the Maccabees. The miracle of Hanukkah is that only one vial of oil was found with just enough oil to illuminate the Temple lamp for one day, and yet it lasted for eight full days. So for eight days the candles of the menorah are lit to commemorate that miracle. May we all enjoy the wonders of this season.
We will be gathering Sunday evening at 6:00 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County at the Lily Pad Complex on North Rd in Peace Dale. We will follow Thay's directions and take the time to enjoy sitting meditation and continue to deepen our understanding of the Third of the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings - The Third Mindfulness Training: Freedom of Thought
Aware of the suffering brought about when we impose our views on others, we are determined not to force others, even our children, by any means whatsoever — such as authority, threat, money, propaganda, or indoctrination — to adopt our views. We are committed to respecting the right of others to be different, to choose what to believe and how to decide. We will, however, learn to help others let go of and transform narrowness through loving speech and compassionate dialogue.
Clare will facilitate and we will share the Dharma. I hope that you will be able to be with us.
I wanted to thank all of you who have been holding me in your prayers. It has meant so much to me. Since April when the cancer became aggressive again, it has been a challenging time.
However, I had a scan done on Thursday and the results show a reduction in all of the active cancer cells and my tumor markers have gone down once again. Although I am not quite out of the woods yet, this is very good news. So thank you all so much for your prayers and please keep up the good work!
Please remember the Plum Village App
Plum Village has created a wonderful app...with talks, songs and a mindfulness bell on a timer...I have included the letter that Plum Village sent below.
If you would like to join the google group in order to connect with the Sangha members directly, please contact Cindy
who oversees that group.
Help wanted: I am looking for someone who might be willing to preview some recordings of Dharma talks I have offered so that they could be edited and put on the website. If you are interested in this project please let me know.
Here's an upbeat practice song....to help us maintain our equanimity during this holiday season...
Here's a helpful to-do list to follow during the holidays and every day after!
