Happy Solstice

I prefer winter and Fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show. Andrew Wyeth

“The winter solstice has always been special to me as a barren darkness that gives birth to a verdant future beyond imagination, a time of pain and withdrawal that produces something joyfully inconceivable, like a monarch butterfly masterfully extracting itself from the confines of its cocoon, bursting forth into unexpected glory.” — Gary Zukav

He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter.... In winter the stars seem to have rekindled their fires, the moon achieves a fuller triumph, and the heavens wear a look of a more exalted simplicity. John Burroughs

Dear Friends, I hope you are well and enjoying these long dark silent nights. As we approach the Solstice it is the perfect time for enjoying the darkness and celebrating the return of the light . It is a wonderful time to lay low and gather strength, to take time to look deeply and reevaluate...to make midcourse corrections..not to mention sit by a fire and drink hot cocoa. I hope you are warm and cozy and enjoying whatever you are doing.

This is just a reminder that tomorrow evening at 6 PM we will gather at our home...725 Matunuck School House Rd. During this busy and joyful season, we will experience the joy of stopping. We will enjoy sitting meditation, I will offer some of Thay's teachings and we will share the Dharma. I hope you will be able to join us.

Thay said, "In our time, in our civilization, sitting and doing nothing is considered either to be a luxury or a waste of time. But sitting can produce the most nourishing calm and joy and we can all afford some time to sit. How wonderful to sit and do nothing. " Let's do it!

This is a reminder that the first Sunday of January we will be meeting at our home for our New Year Ceremony when we honor our ancestors. You are invited to bring a photo or photos of an ancestor or ancestors you would like to remember. You might also like to bring a bell if you have one for our bell meditation as we ring in the New Year. I hope you will be able to be with us.

This is a reminder that if you want to be able to communicate with each other directly, to get info about Social Action Opportunities, to connect to organize ride sharing, etc. you might like to join the google group. If you do please contact Cindy at westnest5@verizon.net.

Please continue to hold Laura French in your prayers. You might like to send some love to South County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 740 Oak Hill Road North Kingstown, RI 02852
