6-30-18 Sangha Update

Sometimes the end of the Path is obscured.. We need to put one foot in front of the other and just focus on navigating the next step as skillfully as we can

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. Frederick Douglass

My dream is that people will find a way back home, into their bodies, to connect with the earth, to connect with each other, to connect with the poor, to connect with the broken, to connect with the needy, to connect with people calling out all around us, to connect with the beauty, poetry, the wildness. Eve Ensler

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” ― Albert Einstein

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well and enjoying these sultry summer days.

This is just a reminder that we will be gathering tomorrow evening at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County in Peace Dale at 6 PM. We will enjoy a sitting meditation, continue to share Thay's teachings from "Creating True Peace", and share the Dharma. I hope you will be able to be with us.

Our country is in a period of rapid change. We can deepen our practice together, so we don't get thrown off balance, don't get distracted, don't get overwhelmed and exhausted and instead see clearly what we might do to help to be the change we want to see in the world. I used to have a quote on my desk that read..."If you want to increase your fear, procrastinate. If you want to decrease your fear, act." I don't know who said it, but I find that it works! Right now we have lots of ways to help the children being held. I love the Frederick Douglas quote...It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. I hope that we will be able to stop causing harm to children and give them a chance to grow strong

There are so many ways we can be of help. If you would like to keep up with some opportunities with prayer requests and for engaged practice, sign up for our google group. It is overseen by Cindy and you can contact her at westnest5@verizon.net.

There is also a new Sangha forming in Newport. The first gathering will be on July 9 at 6:30 at St. Paul's Methodist Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for those on the other side of the bay!

A lovely article by Sister Chan Khong about Thay - https://www.lionsroar.com/thich-nhat-hanh-getting-stronger-every-day/
