12-31-17 No Sangha Tonight! Ancestors Celebration next Sunday!

Congratulations! Another successful journey around the sun!

“Because you are alive, everything is possible.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh, Living Buddha, Living Christ

The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why. - Mark Twain

I have been feeling lots of gratitude for this lifetime and the fact that I have been so blessed to share it with so many wonderful beings (you). Ram Dass said we are all just walking each other home. If we can do that with love, understanding and kindness...sharing all the gifts we came in with and alleviating the suffering that we can....I think that is a wonderful reason to be born! As we begin a new trip around the sun, let's set the intention to enjoy the walk!

Dear Friends,

I hope that you all have been having a lovely holiday season...whatever holiday you celebrate, and staying warm and cozy and enjoying this coming on of winter. I also wanted to remind you that

.. this is the fifth Sunday of the month and there will not be a Sangha gathering tonight!

I have included a link below for a Dharma Talk that Thay offered during the winter retreat in 2013 - Enjoy!

Next Sunday, January 7, will be the first Sunday of the month at 6 PM we will hold our annual New Year's Celebration at our home when we honor our ancestors. We will have a sitting meditation, get a new year's message, and celebrate the strengths of our ancestors that are alive in us. Everyone is invited to bring a photo or photos of your ancestors and a bell or bells if you have them. We will have a bell meditation to ring in the new year. I hope that you will be able to be with us.

Remember our Day of Mindfulness! Being Peace Together – on January 27 at the Westminster Unitarian Church from 9:30-3:30. Registration is now open!!! All of the information is available at joannefriday.com/calendar There is a registration form to register for the day….and if you want to receive formal Transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings, there is information about that and the application form which you will need to fill out and return by Jan. 15. I do hope you will be able to be with us to be peace together for the day.

Engaged Practice: Please remember those who are struggling this holiday season. I am sure that you are aware of lots of organizations who are helping out. Locally, the Jonnycake Center is welcoming gift cards for grocery stores, Wakefield Mall, Walmart, etc.

Then, as always, water some seeds of joy!

It's that time of the year for the Lets Move Challenge. Dancing is how I stay warm in the barn. But what most people don't know is that 16 years ago I had a traumatic back injury that caused me to have several back surgeries including a discectomy and a spinal fusion and never ending back pain. Dancing along with yoga and meditation are my only alternatives to pain medication. Today it is -2 F (-19 C) and it's the end of the year when it can be hard to get out of bed because of winter, back pain and just getting old. So when I'm motivated by a song I just dance like no one is watching. I hope this can inspire you to move in spite of pain, I hope this puts a smile on your face and I'll look forward to dancing with you all in the New Year. Peace and Love, Jay Lavery (I also posted another of his videos on my Facebook page, could not get a link to share here, but you could go there to enjoy it if you like... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTg_yk6jE44

Dance like there's nobody watching and enjoy every moment of your new year! I hope it is filled with every possible blessing.

with much love and deepest gratitude for walking home with you,
