12-19-17 Sangha Update - Changes in our schedule!!!

Winter Solstice All is Calm All is Bright!

The winter solstice has always been special to me as a barren darkness that gives birth to a verdant future beyond imagination, a time of pain and withdrawal that produces something joyfully inconceivable, like a monarch butterfly masterfully extracting itself from the confines of its cocoon, bursting forth into unexpected glory. - Gary Zukov

...silence is pure. Silence is holy. It draws people together because only those who are comfortable with each other can sit without speaking. ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

“December is full of the beauty of Light and love we can bring into our life. You can chose to be stressed or you can choose to let the small stuff go and be peaceful this Holiday season. It really is a choice you make.” ― Eileen Anglin

Dear Friends,

I know this is a very full time for many of us. I wanted to send out this update because our upcoming schedule is very different than normal.

This coming Sunday, we will once again be gathering at our home at 6 PM. It will be Christmas eve...and we will be having a sitting meditation followed by an informal tea party. Everyone who can join us are invited to bring something to share....perhaps a favorite poem, a song, a story, an instrument, etc, etc, etc! It's a time to enjoy tea and cookies and be joyfully together. If you are free, come and join us!

Then the first Sunday in January at 6 PM we will have our annual New Years Ceremony to honor our ancestors. Everyone is invited to bring a photo or photos of your ancestors and a bell or bells if you have them. We will have a bell meditation to ring in the new year. I hope that you will be able to be with us.

Cindy and John needed to trade weeks, so we will be offering the second Sunday at our home as well and Cindy and John will host the third.

A special thanks to Ann G and Margaret Small (Mind Tamers Sangha) for all they did to support the showing of "Walk With Me" at the Jane Pickens Theater. One show grew into three, which was lovely) and they set up the information table at each showing. Thank you!

Remember our Day of Mindfulness! Being Peace Together - on January 27 at the Westminster Unitarian Church from 9:30-3:30. Registration is now open!!! All of the information is available at joannefriday.com/calendar There is a registration form to register for the day....and if you want to receive formal Transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings, there is information about that and the application form which you will need to fill out and return by Jan. 15. I do hope you will be able to be with us to be peace together for the day.

Engaged Practice: Please remember those who are struggling this holiday season. I am sure that you are aware of lots of organizations who are helping out. Locally, the Jonnycake Center is welcoming gift cards for grocery stores, Wakefield Mall, Walmart, etc.

35% of Puerto Rico is still without power...Hispanic Federation is supposed to be helping quite a bit http://hispanicfederation.org

I have been saddened by the lack of awareness of interbeing by some of our legislators in Washington. Along with letters and calls, I have been spending lots of time this holiday season sending them metta.

To be inspired....read about ordinary folks doing things out of love.

Then, as always, water some seeds of joy!

Here is my annual offering of the Hallelujah Chorus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRhjWdr-LAA

And in case we have a white Christmas...these guys show us how to thoroughly enjoy the snow. Enjoy!

I hope you can join us for any or all of the above, Joanne
