In the midst of much chaos and confusion, In the midst of hatred and anger, It is more important than ever that we are able to be peace. me
Hatred never ceases by hatred. Hatred ceases by love alone. The Buddha
Things are not getting worse, they are getting uncovered. We must hold each other tight and continue to pull back the veil. -anonymous
I hope you are all well, enjoying this unfolding summertime and being peace.
We are living in very sad and tumultuous times. We have had hateful, angry people infiltrate our government who have stated that they want to "deconstruct the administrative state". It seems that everything is being viewed through a "them against us" lens. It is really important to not hate people who have been conditioned to hate and be violent. Martin Luther King said "Let no man pull you so low as to hate him". It is also really important to do what we can to stand up to injustice and to do our best to look deeply and to understand the roots of the suffering so that we can take action to address the causes and conditions that have led to it. We must hold each other tightly as we continue to pull back the veil.
We are fortunate to have practices to help us to do that. I hope that you will all be able to be with us this evening at 6 PM at the West home (directions below) We will enjoy sitting/walking//sitting meditation, continue to learn from Thay's writings on "Silence" and share the Dharma. I hope you will be able to join us.
THE RI COMMUNITY OF MINDFULNESS TURNS 25 IN SEPTEMBER!
One way to celebrate....Please save the date - SEPTEMBER 30 for our Annual Sangha Picnic at Colt State Park, Site #3 from 11-3 Please bring a vegetarian dish to share, your family, friends, pets, games, songs, instruments, etc. It is a wonderful way to get to know folks from all six of our Sangrias. I hope you will be able to join us.
Also, from Sept 18-22 the Tibetan monks will be creating a sand mandala at the Memorial Union at URI...It is a beautiful ritual and wonderful to watch it be created.....info below.
WE ARE STILL IN TALKS WITH THE CABLE CAR ABOUT SHOWING THAY'S FILM...WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON OUR PROGRESS!
ENGAGED PRACTICE Here is a site with lots of good opportunities to help. They are sponsoring a global day of prayers August 29th. Please join in. We discussed Thay's teachings on the "Energy of Prayer" last month. We have lots of opportunities to practice....this is a very good one.
I just got word that there are rallies tonight at Town Hall and the State House at 7:30 about the violence at the University of Virginia.
As always...in order to be with the suffering in the world, we need to water seeds of joy!
and a beautiful reminder.....Enjoy!
with much love and three deep breaths for you and for all of us, Joanne
DIRECTIONS TO THE WEST HOME We live about 2 miles from URI. From rt 138, go north onto Old North Rd. (across the street from big sign ““Kingston Hill Store Books Used and Rare””. Also, just a smidge west of the 138/108 traffic light). Old North Rd starts off as a one way, continues on as a two way street, and finally ends as a T. You will see our corner property from there. Go left at the T (Old North Rd meets Stoneyfort Rd), and then a quick right onto Plantation Dr. We are the first home on the right (2nd driveway is easiest). Come on in the side door (porch/kitchen)!
