Some of the last blooms of Autumn.....
a deep teaching of impermanence
“Nothing in the world is permanent,
and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last,
but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it.”
― W. Somerset Maugham
I hope you are well, enjoying the coming on of autumn and valuing every present moment.
This is a reminder that there will be a gathering this coming Sunday at 6 PM at the home of Cindy and John West. (directions are below.) We will enjoy sitting/walking/sitting meditation, continue our study of the Mindfulness Survival Kit and share the Dharma. I hope that you will be able to be with us. In the middle of such topsy turvy times in our country, it is wonderful to be together in silence and deepen our capacity for equanimity and peace.
Along those same lines, there will be a Day of Mindfulness in West Hartford on Saturday, Oct 29.
How To Be at Peace in a Chaotic World: Deep Listening and Mindful Speech
Saturday, Oct.29, 2016 9:30- 4PM
There is also a series of lectures being offered again this year for the Honors Colloquium at URI with the focus being Inequality. The lectures are at 7 PM on Tuesdays. You can check the website for more info at http://web.uri.edu/hc/
The Contemplative Studies Initiative at Brown University proudly introduces it's Fall 2016 Lecture Series: "Mindfulness, Science and Society." Please join us for these exciting lectures and please advertise them to your classes and your mailing lists. These are, in most cases, once in a lifetime opportunities to hear these distinguished scholars and researchers.
If you would like to be a part of the Clear Heart googlegroup so that you can correspond directly with other Sangha members, please contact Cindy at email@example.com
And finally on the topic of impermanence, one of our dearest friends died suddenly this past week of a brain hemorrhage. Even knowing that in the ultimate dimension there is only continuation, in this historical dimension there is deep sadness and we miss her. As it turned out just a couple of months ago, she sent us this beautiful video....on Gabriel Garcia Marquez's letter of good-bye. It is very beautiful reminder...I share it with you, here is the link...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcr1wQ4BSUg
I hope you will be able to take part in one or more of the above...and enjoy every moment until then.
with love and the deep peace of a chilly autumn evening,
DIRECTIONS TO THE WEST HOME
We live about 2 miles from URI. From rt 138, go north onto Old North Rd. (across the street from big sign ““Kingston Hill Store Books Used and Rare””. Also, just a smidge west of the 138/108 traffic light). Old North Rd starts off as a one way, continues on as a two way street, and finally ends as a T. You will see our corner property from there. Go left at the T (Old North Rd meets Stoneyfort Rd), and then a quick right onto Plantation Dr. We are the first home on the right (2nd driveway is easiest). Come on in the side door (porch/kitchen)!
