10-16-15 Sangha Update

Enjoying the last flowers before the frost... Impermanence!

“It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler crust of brown sugar and cinnamon.” Sarah Addison Allen - First Frost

“Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love - that makes life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one's very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns."

[Letter to Miss Eliot, Oct. 1, 1841]” ― George Eliot

Dear Friends,

I hope you are well and happy and savoring the deliciousness of this glorious autumn morning...we just had a thunderstorm...with leaves flying and clouds racing overhead...followed by luminous glowing light! What a cosmos!
This is just a reminder that there will be a gathering at our home on Sunday evening at6 PM. We will enjoy a sitting meditation, I will offer a short talk and we will share the Dharma. I hope that you will be able to be with us.
The Van Horn's will not be able to host...so THERE WILL NOT BE A MEETING ON Sunday the 25th!
This coming Saturday, there will be an OI/Aspirant gathering at the Bell Street Chapel in Providence at 10 AM.
Susan Glogovac will be facilitating and there will be a Recitation of the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings and sharing the Dharma. We have been practicing with each of the Trainings and are now working with the Third. A number of us have also been studying the Sutra on The Full Awareness of the Breath from the book "Awakening of the Heart". It is very rich and can really help us deepen our practice. This meeting is open to Order members, aspirants and anyone who is interested in learning more about our practice. There will be a meeting of the Radiant Bell Sangha from 8:00- 9:30 for any of you who might like to attend both meetings.
A Day of Mindfulness coming up on Oct. 31 in West Hartford...if you know of anyone in the area or if you will be in the area, please join us! Info and registration at joannefriday.com/calendar

From the Dharma Teacher's Council: "There will be a retreat for sangha facilitators February 18-21, 2016 at Blue Cliff Monastery, sponsored by the Dharma Teacher's Council. We recognize that the sangha facilitator is a vital link for Thay's continuation, and would like to support facilitators to deepen skills, connect with one another by practicing together, and share experiences around common issues that arise when facilitating a sangha. More information will be coming soon, but we wanted to get the dates out as early as possible."
Please check the bluecliffmonastery.org website for other retreats that they are offering.
In the meantime, enjoy what is wonderful in every moment!
with much love and the freedom of a golden leaf sailing on an autumn breeze for you,
