2-13-15 Sangha Update

Happy Valentine's Day! with love, Buddha

“Through my love for you, I want to express my love for the whole cosmos, the whole of humanity, and all beings. By living with you, I want to learn to love everyone and all species. If I succeed in loving you, I will be able to love everyone and all species on Earth... This is the real message of love.” Thich Nhat Hanh

“If we do not know how to take care of ourselves and to love ourselves, we cannot take care of the people we love. Loving oneself is the foundation for loving another person.” Thich Nhat Hanh

Hatred never ceases by hatred, but by love alone is healed. This is an ancient and eternal law. Buddha

Dear Friends,

I hope you are well and happy and loving yourself and everyone!

We will have another  opportunity to expand our capacity for love and compassion on Sunday evening at 6 PM at our home. We will enjoy sitting meditation, I will offer a short talk about True Love according to the Buddha and Thich Nhat Hanh, and we will share the Dharma. I  hope you will be able to be with us. I know that they are predicting another snow from Saturday evening through Sunday morning....it is hard to say what that will mean for us. The last couple of snows, we had only an inch or two. We will be here, for any of you who can safely join us, we will be happy to be with you. Richard has been keeping some of the parking areas clear, but parking will be limited, with no parking on the road....so if you can car pool, please do.

We have had a prayer request from our dear friend Laura French. She has been suffering with numerous health challenges for well over a year now....from broken bones, neurological difficulties, Parkinsons and tick bites. She has been meeting these challenges with an incredible level of equanimity. Please hold her in your prayers and meditations and in your hearts. You can send her some love and support in an email to  frenreal@gmail.com .

Please remember that Cindy is creating a list serve so that we can all communicate with each other directly....There have been a few glitches, but they are getting ironed out. If you would like to have access to this, please contact Cindy at westnest5@verizon.net

A big thank you to all of you who were able to join us at URI for the Deep Listening Workshop on racism. The students were wonderful and it seemed that several people were able to experience the power of deep listening. Your solid energy was a wonderful support for this . So thank you again.

Our friends from the Path of Peace Sangha in Franklin, MA are offering another Day of Mindfulness on March 7 on the topic of fear and cultivating fearlessness. They are also available at joannefriday.com I hope you will be able to be with us.

a teaching on true love... The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
