If you would like to wish him a happy continuation day and offer him a gift of your practice...there is information below as to how to go about doing that.He has asked us to offer him a promise....some small way we can deepen our practice....40,000 folks have done that so far. If you would like to offer your gratitude and a promise you can do that at  https://www.facebook.com/thichnhathanh

Speaking of precious...there will be a precious opportunity to come together on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM at Sts. Matthew and Mark Church in West Barrington. directions are below. There will be sitting and walking meditation and sharing the Dharma. I hope you will be able to be there.

PRAYER REQUEST We were just notified that Richard's father died this morning. He was a very good man and had been suffering with the after effects of two strokes for the past three years. We were very grateful that he died very peacefully in no pain.  Please hold Richard and his family in your prayers and meditations and in your hearts. You can send love in the form of a note to 725 Matunuck School House Rd., Wakefield, RI  02879.

The Generations Sangha...we meet the second Saturday of each month at 10 AM at the Westminster Unitarian Church on Kenyon Avenue in East Greenwch, RI. It's for folks of all ages and is a lot of fun! If you can come and support this growing sangha that would be lovely.

There will also be our regular OI/Aspiirant gathering for those of you who are local on the third Saturday, Oct 18 at 10 AM at the Bell Street Chapel  in Providence. This is open to Order members and Aspirants and anyone who is interested in learning more about our practice. This is held right after the Radiant Bell Sangha meeting which will go from 8-9:30 AM. for any of you who would like to sit with the Sangha before the meeting. I hope you will be able to come.

We will have a recitation of the Fourteen Trainings and share the Dharma. The next book we will look at will be "One Buddha is Not Enough"...based on transcripts from the 2009 Colorado Retreat which Thay was unable to attend due to ill-health. The retreat went on beautifully and the book contains Dharma talks by the monastics and Lay teachers, as well as commentary about Thay's hospital stay, along with letters he sent to the retreatants from the hospital.  Thay was so happy that his continuation was manifesting so beautifully.

Help needed... There is also a Veteran's retreat coming up at Blue Cliff. They are looking for financial support in the form of scholarships. Please help if you are able...the information is below.

HELPING THE VETERANS

Dear Sangha Friends,

May this find you enjoying a day filled with lightness and ease.  Please excuse this message, if it duplicates one you have already received.

As you may be aware, Thay Phap Uyen (Brother Michael), of Magnolia Grove Monastery, is a veteran of Desert Storm/Desert Shield.  This November, Brother Michael, supported by the Brothers and Sisters of Blue Cliff and a group of lay practitioners, will offer a healing retreat for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  It is his sincere wish that this be the first in a series of annual retreats that bring healing practices to those who are suffering from traumatic brain injury, PTSD, anger, fear, despair and loneliness.

Many of these veterans have insufficient resources to enable them to travel to and attend the retreat.  The following is a message from Brother Michael --

"Please help make this retreat possible for the people who have been called to serve our country.  Whether we hold a perception that the war was right or wrong, these veterans still have the right to heal after they have been put in harm's way.  PTSD is not an individual problem, it is the problem of our generation.  We all know someone who is in the military or has served.  The rate of suicide and PTSD is rising, and we have a chance to help them.

Each of us can help by sending the link below to our sanghas, friends and family.  If you have a Facebook page, Twitter account, blog or other social media connection, please use it to let people know about this campaign, and encourage them to pass it on to others they know.  We hope you will also offer your financial support, if you are able."
