6-20-14 Sangha Update

Happy Solstice!

Summer is blooming in all of it's glory!

“AND what is so rare as a day in June?

Then, if ever, come perfect days;

Then Heaven tries earth if it be in tune,

And over it softly her warm ear lays;

Whether we look, or whether we listen,

We hear life murmur, or see it glisten;”

― James Russell Lowel

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all doing well. I apologize for being out of touch. Since June 4 my father has been in the hospital in Pittsburgh and for all but two of those days, I have been with him. It seems he is dying and I ask that you might hold him in your prayers and hearts...so that he might pass in peace.

I have not had access to computers and phones very often....so please accept my regrets for being out of touch.

Robert will be offering an OI/Aspirant Recitation Ceremony for the Fourteen Trainings at the Bell Street Chapel on Saturday morning at 10 AM. This will be immediately after the gathering of the Radiant Bell Sangha which meets from 8:00 - 9:30. Everyone is welcome to both meetings. I had asked aspirants to become familiar with Thay's book, "Joyfully Together" and the Sutra on Measuring and Reflecting upon which it is based. Thay has offered 17 Points for Reflection from this Sutra for us to practice with. Please see if any of them resonate for you and use it for a personal practice, for a day, week, etc. whatever length of time seems useful to you.

The Clear Heart Sangha will be meeting on Sunday evening at 6 PM at the home of Robert and Monica. There will be sitting and walking meditation, a talk and a sharing of the Dharma. The directions and the contact information are below. I hope you will be able to attend.

Please save the date for next month's third Saturday OI/Aspirant meeting July 19. It will be a half Day of Mindfulness. We will be meeting from 10-2 at the Bell Street Chapel  and we will focus on facilitation....for sangha gatherings, and dharma sharing. This is an important meeting for all of those from all of our 6 sangha who presently facilitate or who would like to facilitate in the future. I  hope you will all attend...It is important that we have an understanding and an experience of the fruits of the practice. This will be an opportunity for us to deepen our practice together. Most of those who currently facilitate Sanghas have said they will be able to be there. We can share our experiences so we can all become more skillful at creating a safe container where we can cultivate a harmonious and loving community. I hope you will be able to be with us. Please bring a brown bag lunch.

The Radiant Bell Sangha is also sponsoring a Day of Mindfulness at the New Dawn Earth Center,75 Wrentham Rd. Cumberland, RI on June 28th from 12 to 4pm. We will enjoy sitting and walking meditation, I will give a short talk and we will be walking the Labyrinth. The focus for the day will be Loving the Earth. The New Dawn Earth Center is an ecological education center run by the Sisters of Mercy. Please bring a brown bag lunch.There are picnic tables and rest rooms as well as lovely meditative walking trails through the woods. The Sisters of Mercy who sponsor the center on their motherhouse grounds are welcoming us free of charge so, if you are able, there will be an opportunity to make a donation to help them in this work. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate. If it rains we will have to try another time maybe at the end of summer or early fall. It will be wonderful to have the opportunity for our Mindfulness Community to be together in this lovely setting.
