Sangha Updates - January 11

You are like a candle. Imagine you are sending light out all around you. All your words, thoughts and actions are going in many directions. If you say something kind, your kind words go in many directions, and you yourself go with them. We are . . . transforming and continuing in a different form at every moment. —Thich Nhat Hanh

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you all well and letting your light shine in all directions!

It was wonderful to be together to welcome and ring in a New Year and to honor our ancestors. Thank all of you who were willing to share your ancestors with us. I am sorry to say that two of the ancestors got left behind on the altar . . . if they are yours, please let me know. Also a black mitten with a "core" label was found in the driveway. Please claim it if it is yours.

This update will cover upcoming events for the following Sanghas.

CLEAR HEART SANGHA

There will not be a Sangha gathering on Sunday. Clare, who hosts that meeting, will need to be away.

There will be one the following Sunday at our home. More info will follow.

GENERATIONS SANGHA - There will be a gathering of the Generations Sangha for all ages tomorrow from 10-11:30  AM at the Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich followed by refreshments until 12. It is wonderful to be with parents and children and explore together ways to develop our mindfulness practice. There is always a need for support and help. If you can help with child care or just being present for the gathering, please join us. There will be some singing, a story for the children, a Dharma talk for the adults while the kids work on projects and a closing circle. Join us if you can!

ASPIRANT/ORDER OF INTERBEING GATHERING - On January 19 at the Bell St. Chapel at 10:15 AM, we will have a Recitation of the 14 Trainings and Dharma sharing focusing on our practice and the Ten Gates teachings from the Winter Retreat at Deer Park Monastery . . . They can be accessed at deerparkmonastery.org then click on "teachings" then click on "Ten Gates." This meeting is open to aspirants, Order Members and anyone else who is interested in learning more about our practice. The Radiant Bell Sangha will be having their regular meeting from 8-10 AM and you can join them before our meeting if you like.

MIND TAMERS - will meet on the 22nd at 6:30 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in West Barrington, and Shana and Jedd will co-facilitate.

CLEAR PATH SANGHA - will meet on the 23rd at 6 PM at Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich. Wendy and Vicky will co-facilitate.

THICH NHAT HANH'S SUMMER TOUR - Thay will be in the U.S. from August through October. Registration has opened for retreats in Mississippi and Deer Park. If you are interested in being with Thay, please register as soon as possible as the retreats fill up quickly. The schedule is below . . . and can be accessed at tnhtour.org.

WINTER RETREAT - Thay's Winter retreat teachings can be accessed at tnhaudio.org.

I have been invited to offer retreats again this Spring in Toronto from April 5-9 and Rochester from 12-16 and . . .

The RI Community of Mindfulness will once again sponsor a retreat in Scituate, RI at Camp Aldersgate from May 17-21. If you can help with the planning or retreat itself, please contact Ann at goldmoore41@gmail.com.

I hope that you will be able to be with us for some of these gatherings . . . and until then, I know that your thoughts, words and deeds will be lighting up the world.

with much love, many hugs and the deep peace of a silent night for you, Joanne

P.S.>>>Also, some of you requested that I re-send this . . . If you think Buddhists are always serious or . . . if you would like to get a taste of what goes on at our retreats . . . you might like to go to YouTube, and type in “Sangha Style,” then click on the video created by Jungwon Kim.
