Homeward Bound

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -- over and over announcing your place in the family of things. ~ Mary Oliver ~

...Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Help Children in Nicaragua I know that many of us are often looking for organizations to support where we can be sure that our donations are being put to good use. Here is one that I am aware of.....One of the aspirants to our Order, whom I am mentoring, Laura Hopps, recently received a Masters degree from Harvard Divinity School. She has moved to Nicaragua and has begun work with ProNica, see below for details. Laura is a wonderful woman, doing lots of good work in the world. If you are able to support her and this organization, please do.

Most of all, I hope that you will be able to be with us for some or all of the above ...and in the meantime, I hope that you will be aware of your blessings and enjoy every moment of this precious lifetime.

with much love, many hugs and the deep peace of a brand new day for you,

Asociación Los Quinchos is a multifaceted program for former street children, many of whom are survivors of physical and/or sexual abuse, abandonment, and addiction to glue and other drugs. Founded by Zelinda Roccia in 1991, Los Quinchos serves more than 200 children in residential programs and street outreach programs with meals, addiction recovery programs, educational support, and a safe home environment with holistic psychological support in their residential programs.

Among the projects at Los Quinchos are: an outreach and intake center for street children in Managua, a boys farm where 45 boys currently live, a cultural center and library, and a girls residence in San Marcos with over 30 girls presently living there.

In past years, ProNica’s generous donors helped the Quinchos extend their outreach to feed 45 children who live and work in the Managua city landfill, La Chureca.

During the summer months before the Christmas giving season begins, Los Quinchos has a hard time feeing all of the 200 children in their programs. Pronica is now searching for donations to support the most urgent need at the Los Quinchos center in the Managua city dump.

A healthy meal cost $1.50 a day. One lunch for one day costs $70; for a week costs $400; for a month costs $1600. To assist this vital program, mark your contribution.

Thank you!

ProNica is a Quaker organization working in solidarity to support the empowerment of Nicaraguan communities since 1986 with a commitment to non-violence, peace-building and social justice.
