"When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free." — Wendell Berry (Sex, Economy, Freedom & Community: Eight Essays)
Dear Mind Tamers,
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day, resting in the grace of the world and are free.
I am just re-entering from the Blue Cliff Retreat so this will be just a brief reminder that we will be meeting tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM at St Matthews Church in West Barrington. I hope you will be able to be with us.
I wanted to thank all of you Mind Tamers for all you did to create conditions for the entire RI Community to come together to enjoy each other, a beautiful day, luscious food and wonderful entertainment in a beautiful setting! You are all Bodhisattvas!
I also wanted to remind you that Thay has given some wonderful talks during his visit to the US. You can hear them at tnhaudio.org. Enjoy!
I also wanted to remind you that I have been invited to offer a Day of Mindfulness in Brunswick, ME on the 29th of Oct. and another in West Hartford, CT on the 5th of Nov. and another in NYC at Riverside Church on Nov. 19. If you or any of your friends will be in those neighborhoods at those times, I hope you will join us. Information about these events can be found at joannefriday.com.....thanks to Shana and Ellen!
Mostly, I hope we can be together tomorrow evening and until then, I hope you will be choosing joy!
with much love and the freedom of a golden leaf sailing on an autumn breeze for you, Joanne
